L’arc~en~ciel

L’Arc~en~ciel was founded in 1991 by Tetsu, who became the bassist of the band. With Hyde, the singer, Hiro, the guitarist and Pero playing the drums they started playing gigs and gained moderate success in their hometown Osaka. After replacing Hiro and Pero, who left the band quite quickly, with Sakura and Ken they made their very first album DUNE in 1993. Their career took off. DUNE hit the Oricon chart as number one and major record companies started to show interest. Suddenly L'Arc~en ciel had a wonderful career playing gigs at sold out venues and releasing top records after another.

The band has had its ups and downs, including drummer Sakura's drug arrest in 1997, when the whole band had to lay low for almost a year and replace their drummer, but they have always bounced back. And even with the busy solo careers of its members, L’Arc~en~ciel still continues as a band and is as popular as ever.
